History of men’s neckwear ?

The history of men’s neckwear dates back to ancient times, where it was used for various purposes, including protection from the sun, keeping warm, and distinguishing between different social classes. However, the modern necktie, as we know it today, did not become popular until the 17th century.

During the Thirty Years War (1618–1648), Croatian soldiers introduced a new fashion accessory to France — a piece of cloth tied around the neck that was called a “cravat.” This style quickly became popular, and the French began to develop their own versions of the cravat, which eventually evolved into the modern necktie.

In the 18th century, neckties were often made of linen, cotton, or silk and were decorated with embroidery, lace, or frills. They were worn in a variety of styles, including the “Steinkirk” or “Stock” tie, which was tied around the neck in a loose knot and allowed to hang down the chest.

During the 19th century, the necktie became more streamlined and was worn in a simple, straight style that is still popular today. Neckties were often made of silk or wool and came in a range of colors and patterns.

In the 20th century, the necktie continued to evolve, with new styles and fabrics becoming popular. The skinny tie, made popular in the 1960s, was a narrower version of the traditional necktie and was often worn with mod-inspired suits. In the 1970s, the wide tie became popular, often featuring bold colors and patterns.

Today, the necktie remains an essential part of men’s formalwear, although it is no longer strictly necessary in many workplaces. Neckties are available in a wide variety of styles, colors, and patterns, allowing men to express their personal style and add a touch of sophistication to their outfits.
