Sustainable Fashion
The cotton and synthetic fibers from which our clothes are made require a lot of land, water and energy.
This contributes to environmental degradation, pollution from harmful chemicals, greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain and piles of waste.
The people who make our clothes often face hazardous working conditions and very low wages, but the lack of transparency across the fashion supply chain means brands are not responsible for labor rights abuses and local environmental damage.
We urgently need to change our relationship in fast fashion to protect the planet and the world's underserved workers.
Our goals for sustainable fashion:
Face the fast fashion industry and fight the overconsumption of clothing.
Promote the reuse, repair and redistribution of clothing and textiles.
Support ethical and sustainable fashion brands.
Making brands accountable for their sustainability practices.
What we can do
Buy fewer clothes - ask yourself if you really need them before buying them.
Take advantage of the clothes you already have by finding new ways to style your old clothes.
Repair torn or worn clothes instead of throwing them away.
Buy second hand, charity shops, exchange meetings, or through online platforms like Depop and eBay.
Donate or sell your unused clothes instead of throwing them away.
Whenever possible, choose ethical and sustainable brands when buying a new one. Look for clothes made of organic cotton or recycled materials.
Use the Fashion Transparency Index to find out how transparent your favorite brands are about their supply chains, where they get their materials from, and the labor conditions of the people who make our clothes.
Encourage brands to be more transparent and implement better labor rights and sustainability policies.
